Cadiz vs Getafe Preview
With the bottom half of LaLiga as tightly congested as it is, there will be relegation six pointers almost every week between now and the end of the season. This match certainly fits that category with Cadiz 15th and Getafe 16th heading into matchday 25.
The loser here may well end the weekend in the relegation zone but for Cadiz, it’s a big opportunity to climb all the way to 12th. That would complete a remarkable transformation after they lost their first 5 matches this season, conceding 14 and scoring none. Other boards may well have opted for a change in coach at that point, but Cadiz have been rewarded for their faith in Sergio who has delivered 26 points from 19 games since that poor start.
That’s more like mid-table than relegation form and there is real optimism now in Cadiz that they can beat the drop. January additions have improved their starting eleven while they are playing with much more confidence at home. Indeed they are 9 unbeaten at the Nuevo Mirandilla now in LaLiga, winning each of the last 3 to nil.
Getafe aren’t exactly one of LaLiga’s best travellers. They’ve not won a league game on the road since October against bottom club Elche and it’s just 1 point from 5 away fixtures since then. They have faced some of the better sides during that run but they have two huge games prior to the international break, with fellow strugglers Sevilla visiting the Coliseum after this.
Quique Sanchez Flores’ side did collect maximum points last time out. They came flying out of the traps against Girona with a brace inside 15 minutes from Enes Unal before Borja Mayoral made it 3-0 before Half Time. The Catalans did ultimately pull it back to 3-2 but with their two main forwards in the goals, Getafe can take a bit of confidence into this game. It’ll be interesting to see the team selection with Munir a slightly surprise inclusion in a midfield role last time, as Sanchez Flores opted for a bolder approach which delivered the desired result.

Both sides have found a few results at home of late whilst looking less convincing away and it does feel like home advantage could be the key factor in swinging this game in Cadiz’s favour. They just look better in almost every area of the pitch following some smart January business and may just edge what is likely to be a tight game between two sides battling for their lives.
