Cadiz vs Celta Vigo Preview
The relegation battle in LaLiga sees a number of absolutely crucial games take place this weekend and this is certainly one of them. After a demise in form, Celta are now only two points above the relegation zone and they’d drop below opponents Cadiz were they to lose this game.
The Andalusian side are in 17th on 38 points, the same number as the sides directly below and above them, so things couldn’t be much tighter at the bottom. Sergio’s side do though appear to have a couple of really good fixtures as they target the victory that should be enough to keep them in the league. As well as badly out-of-form Celta, they visit bottom club Elche on the final weekend and they also have the experience of winning a relegation battle in similar circumstances last term.
Their midweek trip to Villarreal always felt like something of a free hit for Cadiz and they couldn’t pull off a surprise with Nico Jackson scoring twice in a 2-0 win for the 5th placed side. It’s 4 defeats in 6 overall for Cadiz but crucially they’ve won their two relegation six pointers during that period – beating both Valencia and Real Valladolid at home, results that should breed confidence heading into this one.
As for Celta Vigo, it’s hard to imagine there is too much belief in their camp right now. Their decline since the last international break has been dramatic with performance levels falling off a cliff. There was genuine talk of a European push when they won 3-1 at Espanyol in mid March, at a time when their previous two home games had also produced 3-0 wins. However it’s just 1 win and only 6 points from their 10 fixtures since the trip to the RCDE Stadium.
Even that victory came in unconvincing fashion with Joseph Aidoo scoring in the 90th minute to defeat bottom club Elche 1-0. It may end up being a goal that keeps Celta in the league but there is no guarantee that their current tally of 40 points will be enough. They need something from this game if they want to avoid a really nervy final weekend when they host champions Barcelona.

Score Prediction: Cadiz 2-0 Celta Vigo
Celta just haven’t looked convincing in recent weeks and they really are in some danger now. Talisman Iago Aspas has been badly out of form and is carrying an injury which may force him to start on the bench again here. While Cadiz certainly have their flaws, they’ve shown up for these big six pointers at home and with a noisy stadium behind them, they may have too much for Celta here.
