After a 12 months on the sidelines, Jonathan Burkardt lastly made his return towards Hoffenheim on Sunday. “It was very emotional,” he mentioned after the match.
Jonathan Burkadt made his long-awaited return from a severe knee damage on Sunday, coming off the bench in Mainz’s 1-1 draw with Hoffenheim.
It was the 23-year-old striker’s first look since November 2022, and it wasn’t till the ultimate whistle that he realized how a lot it meant to be again on the pitch.
“I’ve to say, through the sport and once I got here on, I blocked out rather a lot and was fairly centered. I used to be not likely conscious of the chants. However after the sport you understand how good it’s to be again after such a very long time,” Burkardt, who shed a tear or two, informed Kicker.
Along with the followers’ chants, the hugs from his household and girlfriend had been memorable.
“I feel it was very emotional for them too. After all, they’ve been by my facet all 12 months, so it was a really good second.”
Burkardt has scored 18 targets and laid on 9 assists in 94 appearances for Mainz. His contract expires subsequent summer season.
