Brett Lee on Murphy’s Dream Debut

Brett Lee believes that Todd Murphy has the potential to take the place of Nathan Lyon. Murphy has claimed 10 wickets in the first two Test matches of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. His Test debut at Nagpur saw him claiming a 7-wicket haul and made the world notice the new Aussie wizard.
Who after Nathan Lyon? Lee answers

Recently while speaking on his Youtube channel, Lee backed him saying Murphy could be the next Nathan Lyon for Australia. “Who after Nathan Lyon? Well, it looks like they found their answer in the young 22-year-old superstar off-spinner Todd Murphy. What a sensational debut it was for Australia. Australia lost the match by a whopping margin but Todd Murphy made the world sit up and take notice.”

Todd Murphy had a brilliant debut in the first Test of the BGT series and according to the Australia legend, Murphy could do well in Indian conditions with him off-spin. “In the only innings that Australia bowled, he picked up 7/124. Five wickets were the wickets of KL Rahul, Ravi Ashwin, Pujara, Virat Kohli, and Ravi Jadeja. What a dream debut it was. He did so in the presence of his family all the way in Nagpur. I expect him to do better in abrasive conditions in India,” Lee added.
Lee’s high hopes

He further hoped, “There are a lot of tough series ahead of him. Let’s see if he’s got it or not. For the sake of Australian cricket, I really hope the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is the only first chapter of what will be an epic career.”

Meanwhile, Australia are 0-2 behind India in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar series. The third Test match is scheduled to be played in Indore from March 1.
