The three Aussie gamers contesting singles matches on day 5 at Australian Open 2024 all face top-ranked opponents.
World No.10 Jelena Ostapenko stands in the way in which of Ajla Tomljanovic progressing to the third spherical at Melbourne Park for the primary time.
“She’s an amazing participant. I’m positively the underdog,” Tomljanovic acknowledged of the Latvian, who’s on a six-match successful streak after claiming the Adelaide Worldwide title final week.
“(However) I really like that … I’m excited.”
Max Purcell faces the eleventh seed, Norway’s Casper Ruud, in males’s singles motion.
The 25-year-old Aussie takes confidence into the showdown with the three-time Grand Slam finalist, having received their most up-to-date assembly in August final 12 months.
“I’m very happy to provide him one other crack,” Purcell commented.
Thanasi Kokkinakis is equally unnerved forward of his second-round assembly with world No.13 Grigor Dimitrov.
The Bulgarian, an Australian Open semifinalist in 2017, received the Brisbane Worldwide earlier this month and is on a six-match successful streak.
“I’m going to attempt to be aggressive and take it to him and hopefully make him really feel uncomfortable on the market,” world No.80 Kokkinakis mentioned.
“It’s going to be a really robust match, (however) I’m going to convey my finest.”
