Atletico Madrid vs Sevilla Preview
Sevilla travel to the Spanish capital this weekend as they face Atletico Madrid at the Civitas Metropolitano. Atletico will look to continue their strong run of form whilst Sevilla will aim to grab points away at Atleti for the third time in four seasons.
Atletico currently sit fourth in the table, two points ahead of Real Betis in fifth. Diego Simeone’s side struggled to find form in the opening months of the season, with the capital side winning only three of their final ten games before the World Cup. However, although performances have varied, since the start of the year Atleti’s results have improved to say the least, losing only one of their eight matches in 2023, and that was to league leaders Barcelona.
Last time out, Atletico took on Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu in the Madrid derby and were perhaps unfortunate to only pick up a draw. Jose Maria Gimenez put Los Rojiblancos ahead in the second half through a glancing header from a set piece after Atletico were reduced to ten men due to Angel Correa’s controversial red card. However Real Madrid youngster Alvaro Rodriguez headed home a goal of his own as each side took a point from the game.
A win here against a big name such as Sevilla would be a confidence booster for Diego Simeone’s side in their pursuit of a Champions league place.
Like Atletico, Sevilla have also much improved since the start of the new year, winning four of their eight matches after only picking up victories in two of their previous fifteen league games prior to the break. However, after only achieving one point from their last two games, the Andalusian club has been drawn back into an unlikely relegation fight and will want to regain form soon in order to have a comfortable end to the season.
Last time out, Sevilla hosted Osasuna in a game very easy on the eye as the away side took all three points in a 3-2 win. David Garcia headed Osasuna in front in the first half and despite excellent second half goals from Nemanja Gudelji and Youssef En-Nesyri, Osasuna would grab all three points with a goal from Abde as well as an own goal from Fernando, who was later sent off.

Whenever two of Spain’s biggest names meet it is always worth tuning in and this one is no different. Both teams are scoring at a reasonable rate at the moment, but with Atletico being unbeaten in their last seven LaLiga matches, we expect them to just be too much for Sevilla this time around.
