Arsenal fans believe that their Invincibles team is now the best side in Premier League history after Manchester City matched Manchester United’s famous 1999 treble achievement.
The only previous English club to achieve a combined domestic and European Cup/Champions League treble was Liverpool. Bob Paisley’s side added the League Cup to their First Division and European Cup triumphs in 1984.
City, therefore, joined an exclusive table after defeating Inter Milan 1-0 in the Champions League final on Saturday evening.
After winning the Premier League, Pep Guardiola‘s side defeated United in the FA Cup final before triumphing at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul.
Prior to their victory, one of the most common debates in English football surrounded whether United’s 1999 treble-winning side, or the 2003/04 Arsenal side that went an entire season unbeaten, was the best in the Premier League era.
And Gunners fans finally believe they have got their answer.

Taking to Twitter, a host of Gunners supporters believe City’s replication of United’s 1999 treble makes the Arsenal Invincibles side under Arsene Wenger the greatest to ever grace the Premier League.
They became just the second English top division side to achieve the feat in 2004, following on from Preston North End in 1888/89.
One Arsenal fan wrote, in the context of the Gunners receiving a gold Premier League trophy: “Never replicated. The greatest achievement by an English side, until someone else can reproduce it.”
Another claimed: “The Invincibles will be the only record that stands the test of time.”
And a third fan said: “Arsenal’s Invincibles > Man United’s Treble. The Treble can be equalled as we’ve seen. The Invincibles can’t.”
Meanwhile, another supporter referenced comments made by Ferguson himself when discussing the Arsenal Invincibles as part of a documentary about Wenger: “The achievements stand above anything else.”
Fans of other clubs and even Arsenal supporters, however, disagreed. One said: “Both City and United achievements and any of Liverpool CL titles top it by a country mile.”
Another, meanwhile, wrote: “I really don’t get this. Man City have just won the Champions League and treble but let’s talk about us who went a whole season unbeaten … we ain’t won the league since.”
