Alaves and Levante meet in Vitoria for the 1st Leg of their Segunda Division Play-Off Final this weekend. Both sides managed to be more clinical and take opportunities to secure progression past their Semi-Final opponents and it promises to be a competitive tie between two clubs seeking immediate returns to the top flight.

The Basque side are at a slight disadvantage in that they’ve had one day fewer rest having seen off Eibar on this ground as recently as Thursday night. It’s a big ask for these players to play two of the most important games of the season to date in the space of four days but that’s the schedule and Luis Garcia will be hoping the energy of the crowd can help his side battle through.

Alaves only had 3 attempts in the 1st Leg of their Semi-Final against Eibar but scored with their only shot on target to draw 1-1 at Ipurua. They had more of the game on Thursday winning 2-0 with a goal in the 1st and 88th minutes but again it was their opponents who had more attempts and Alaves managed to score with 3 of their 4 shots on target across the two legs. Garcia may change things up a bit here in terms of team selection with Salva Sevilla an injury doubt while striker Mamadou Sylla may rotate out having somewhat surprisingly started both legs of the Semi.

As for Levante, they were dominant 6-1 winners against Albacete on aggregate in their Semi-Final clash. Although again the scoreline wasn’t a full reflection on the two legs. Javier Calleja’s side only had 14 attempts on goal across the two matches and scored with all 6 shots on target while their opponents could only manage one goal from 29 efforts across the tie.

The Valencia side’s extra experience and elite level was telling with Jorge De Frutos starring in the 1st Leg while two First Half goals from Roger Brugue effectively killed off the tie by Half Time in the 2nd Leg at the Ciutat de Valencia on Wednesday. They were cruising after that with Calleja able to withdraw some players in the Second Half and they should be the better rested side here. They should carry real momentum into this game too after 4 straight wins overall and 11 goals scored in those games.

Score Prediction: Alaves 1-1 Levante

It’s tough to pick a winner in this tie. Levante perhaps have a slight edge given the impressive form they are in when in front of goal and given they ought to be a bit fresher than their opponents who’ve had one fewer day of rest and came through a tougher Semi-Final. They are also the only team to have won at Mendizorrotza in the league this season but with the 2nd Leg to come in Valencia, Calleja would probably be more than content to settle for a draw here as he comes up against his former club.
