The much anticipated Women’s IPL will kickstart from 4th March Saturday in Mumbai. 5 teams will be competing with each other to be crowned as the champion of the inaugural edition of the WPL. There has been much talk and excitement about the tournament and is often called as ‘game changer’ by many experts. The tournament will help women’s cricket grow immensely and will help uplift the sport. The five teams in the tournament are Gujarat, Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi and UP.
The Gujarat Giants squad is filled with match winners who could turn the matches on their head and win you games single handedly. They have a well balanced squad mixed with experience and youth.
They have got many players who are consistent and are absolute bankers with a bat in hand. But the player crucial for the success of Gujarat Giants is Deandra Dottin.
3-D Player
Dottin is a Barbadian cricketer and a powerful batter. She is a proper three dimensional player who can win you matches with both and the ball. She is perfectly suited for this format as she can tear down any bowling lineup apart. She plays at the crucial position of number 5 or 6 and needs to adapt according to the situation of the match. She does not take time to settle and can score quickly from the get go. Players like Gardner, Mooney, and Dunkley can play around Dottin with the West Indian all rounder playing her natural game.
In T20 Internationals, Dottin has scored 2697 runs in 127 matches at an average of 25 with 112* as her highest score. She has taken 62 wickets at an average of 19 with an economy of 6.42.
Big Match Player
The 31-year-old is a very experienced campaigner having played cricket for over 13 years. She has currently scored two centuries, which makes her the only female T20 cricket player to do so. She was selected as the standout player of the 2018 World Twenty20 for her accomplishments with both the bat and the ball, which included a surprising 5-5 draw with Bangladesh. She was just the third female cricketer to play in 100 WT20I matches when she did it in September of that year. In September 2020, she became the first player to smash 100 sixes in WT20Is. She is a big match player and can step in every time the team needs her to perform.
In the final of the WBBL in 2023, the West Indian batter played a match winning innings with the bat helping the Adelaide Strikers lift the trophy. Walking in at number 5, Dottin scored 37 balls 52 with a strike rate of 140 to help Strikers put a respectable total on the board. She even took 2 crucial wickets with the ball to restrict the Sixers to a low total.
