Martin Odegaard has been linked with a shock move away from Arsenal after a stunning campaign for the Gunners.
Mikel Arteta’s side ultimately finished second, five points winners Manchester City, despite leading the way for the vast majority of the season.
Captain Odegaard had a stellar season, scoring 15 goals and registering eight assists in 37 appearances.
Many picked him as Player of the Year even with the ridiculous goalscoring heroics of compatriot Erling Haaland for Manchester City.
But a report from Simon Jones of the Daily Mail claims Paris Saint-Germain in for Odegaard.
The Ligue One champions have taken notice of his classy midfield displays in Arsenal’s highest finish for a long time and are tempted to test the waters with an offer.
The former Real Madrid and Real Sociedad man still has two years on his contract at the Emirates Stadium, which will host Champions League football again next season.
He is believed to be happy in London and Arsenal are understandably desperate to keep hold of their talisman, who joined initially on loan before completing a £30 million transfer in 2021.
Odegaard finally realised his potential with Arsenal and put it all together on the pitch. But after Arsenal dropped 15 points in eight games in a title race collapse, he couldn’t hide his frustration for how the season panned out.
“We’re not at all happy with the end of the season,” Odegaard wrote in his Arsenal programme notes ahead of the 5-0 hammering of Wolves.
“When the disappointment goes away, and with a bit of time, I guess we will look back at this season and be proud, but right now it’s pain and frustration.
“With the position we’ve been in all season, we’re not happy with second place. Even though it’s a good achievement and probably everyone would have taken it before the season, we wanted to win it when we got into that position. It’s a good sign that we are disappointed, and I think we should be.”
