The Australian cricket team have continued their dominance in world cricket with the recent win in the final of the Women’s T20 World Cup against South Africa. It was Australia’s 6th T20 World Cup title as the Aussies yet again showcased why they are the best-ever women’s cricketing team in history.
One of the key performers for the World Champions was fast bowler Megan Schutt who impressed one and all with her sensational bowling. She took 10 wickets in the tournament and finished as the team’s joint top wicket-taker. Before the summit clash, Australia met Team India in the semi-final, which was an absolute cracker of a game.
India, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, put up a worthy fight and reached quite near the victory line, but the Aussies kept their nerve and eventually registered the crucial triumph. Notably, Harmanpreet was on the verge of taking the game away from Australia before a brain fade moment occurred, and she got run out in a bizarre fashion.
After the game, Harman claimed that the body language of the Australian team was down, and hence they took advantage of it during the run chase to get closer to the target. However, Harmanpreet’s comment hasn’t gone down well with Schutt, who has lambasted the Indian captain on her statement.
Schutt disagreed with Harman and mentioned they are calm and don’t get panic in pressure situations. The Adelaide-born pacer admitted they were under the pump but denied accepting Harman’s take that their body language was down.
“They were cruising, and we were under the pump. Collectively our last five overs were crucial. Getting a couple of wickets in there but also providing pressure on all aspects, whether it’s in the field, with the ball or even body language out there. Harman said our body language was down. I’ll call bullshit on that. We’re just calm. We don’t panic, we don’t take it out on each other if there’s a misfield or a dropped catch. That’s where we stand out as a team. We’re a team first, and we know getting angry about that isn’t going to do about that. So it was a collective effort,” Schutt said while talking to Cricbuzz.
